The Afrobeats artist shows off her incredible vocal range on latest cut
One of the most unique and exciting voices on the scene, Teni shows off her tender side on soothing new single ‘Lanke’, out Thursday, August 31st on Platoon. Directed by Syx, the official video sees Teni exuding confidence in the empowering visual shot in Ghana. Celebrating all things female, we see Teni throw money in the air and celebrate life whilst singing “I feel good” surrounded by a harem of video vixens. In the colourful video, Teni debuts her eyewear collaboration with the popular African fashion brand Shushi. We see her reveal the first look at 'Sugar Mummy’s’, one of the limited edition eyewear designs coming from her collection soon.
Produced by the award-winning Blaisebeatz (Wizkid, Davido, Asake, Ty Dolla Sign), ‘Lanke’ is a feel good anthem set against a backdrop of ethereal synth melodies and warm bass paired with Afropop percussion with Teni’s fluid, genre-hopping vocals. Sunny harmonies and a gently ascending chord sequence give the track a heart-warming feel as it sails along to its sweet conclusion - a perfect summer vibe. “Life has ups and downs. Enjoy the moment either up or down.” Teni says of the single, “Feel good, regardless of what life throws at you. Always feel good. Omo Lanke is someone that owns a wheelbarrow. You never see a person that owns a wheel barrow drive straight. Good or bad, we stay pushing, we don’t stop, we keep going. We appreciate the good, we learn from the bad.”
Following roof-raising recent single ‘No Days Off’, which is already approaching three million streams and named one of Rolling Stone Best Songs of 2023 So Far, as well as the success of last year’s ‘MAITAMA (Going)’, a head-turning collaboration with Mayorkun, Ch’cco and the late Costa Titch, and a recent rework of Bob Marley & The Wailers classic ‘Three Little Birds’ with Oxlade, Teni’s latest single once again shows off the stylistic range and melodic power the songstress possesses. Earlier this year, Teni made her debut on COLORS, featured on Stormzy’s latest album This Is What I Mean and has previously collaborated with Wizkid
and Davido.
Teni is known for uplifting, stylistically eclectic songs that stand apart from her Afro-pop contemporaries. She first came to prominence in 2018, when a series of songs including ‘Case’ found a streaming audience numbering in the millions. Her debut EP, Billionaire, followed in 2019. The same year she was nominated for a BET Award for Best New International Act and an MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, before teaming up with DJ Neptune on the next year's The Quarantine Playlist EP. Teni’s acclaimed LP WONDALAND followed in 2021, with the star going independent that same year. ‘Lanke’ is another melodic gem from Teni, adding to her quickly growing discography of crowd-pleasing hits.
