* T Time* is a visual exploration of one of Senegal’s most beloved cultural rituals: the art of *Ataya* (tea) drinking. Through this editorial series, Khaled Fhemy Mamah shares his personal observations and reflections on this everyday tradition. In Senegal, tea time is often a moment of togetherness, where men gather to chat, play games, and enjoy each other’s company. It is a time of connection and community—more than just drinking tea, it's about sharing experiences and laughter.Â
Presented in a series of Black and White photographs, accompanied by a short film, the project captures the elegance and simplicity of the *Ataya* process while infusing it with visual style. Every detail, from the brewing of the tea to the interactions between participants, is thoughtfully composed to evoke both the timelessness and the ritual's beauty.Â
At the heart of this editorial is a unique shift in perspective: instead of focusing solely on men, as is traditionally the case in these gatherings, Fhemy places a female character at the center of the scene with an eye-catching makeup. Here, men are shown serving the woman—a reversal of roles that aims to elevate and honor women within this cultural ritual. By doing so, the project offers a fresh reimagining of the dynamics of power and service, while maintaining its respect for the tradition itself.Â
The styling of the project is another crucial layer of its narrative. Every outfit featured has been sourced from thrift stores, reinforcing a sense of accessibility and collaboration. The entire styling process was a collective effort, with contributions from everyone involved. This teamwork embodies the communal spirit of the project, aligning with the themes of connection and shared effort.Â
With *T Time*, Khaled Fhemy Mamah invites viewers to see this beloved cultural ritual in a new light, blending tradition with a bold, modern perspective that honors both its history and its future.Â
