In this engaging interview, we sit down with Amirah Strand, a talented and inspiring figure in the fashion industry. From her roots in Oslo and Sweden to her bold move to London, Amirah shares her journey, the challenges she’s faced, and the inspirations that drive her. Dive into her experiences, her thoughts on cultural identity in fashion, and her advice for aspiring models and influencers.
Tell us about yourself for those who don’t know who you are?
My name is Amirah Strand, I’m 24 years old. I was born in Oslo, Norway but then grew up in Sweden. When I turned 21, I decided to move to London and pursue my career in the creative industry.
The Sudanese part of your family, was there any difficulties gaining support from your family to believe in the dream you have?
My parents divorced when I was very young, so I practically grew up without my dad. But my beautiful mom and sisters are my biggest support system.
I love the connection you have with your sisters and how you’re cultivating a family movement - do they inspire you to push further in your career?
My sisters are my biggest inspiration, I love that I get to experience life with them. We always turn to each other for advice, and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them. ❤️
Could you tell us a bit more about your breakthrough in the fashion industry?
Hmm, I still don’t feel like I have had my big breakthrough, but I’m proud to see the progress I have made so far. I’ve definitely built my confidence over the years in the fashion industry and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Do you feel there’s a missing piece of cultural ‘identity’ within the fashion industry?
Yes, I definitely think there is a missing piece of cultural identity within the fashion landscape. While progress has been made towards diversity, more needs to be done. Fashion should reflect the diversity of our society and empower all individuals to express themselves and feel seen.
Favourite moment you’ve had in the fashion scene? It could be a runway show or anything.
Wow, how do I pick? I’ve had so many first-time experiences since moving to London, like my first event, my first show, my first shoot. But one of my favorite moments would have to be attending the Vogue World show last year—such an iconic moment.
Your current favourite fashion brand you love and why?
Oh, the list is long, but I would have to say Diesel! They have so many cool, innovative designs that fit every occasion.
If there’s a dream show you want to attend and experience - what brand would it be?
So many, but Miu Miu has been on my list for a long time.
